I definitely take advantage of notifications on the iPhone since it became available.  While using the Boxcar app for my Twitter @replies, Facebook app, text messaging, missed calls, voicemails, GPush for GMail and all my sports apps for notifications, it gets a bit busy on the phone's home screen if I'm away from it for a few hours.

What I suggest is simple.  Apple should have a number pop up to display how many notifications/alerts you have.  Along with that it should have a previous, next to scroll through them.  There should also be a 'close' so you can just get to your phone quicker without going through all of them.
