Vevo launches, the new music video site you will hear about

 

Vevo is going to be the next big thing you hear about.   Currently the site is operating very slow and they failed to launch the site last night like they wanted to with technical problems (probably overloaded traffic) as many are anxious to see.  I can't seem to get through the sign up page, can't seem to search or view other features right now.

Sorry Shakira & Sony, you were not the first to premiere video on Facebook, Chamillionaire was

Just want to clarify something that is being falsely promoted by Sony.  Sony is claiming on November 16th, Shakira will be using Facebook & Ustream to premiere her new video.....and she is the first to ever do it. Imma let you finish Sony, but me and Chamillionaire did this already and were the best of all time! 

TechCrunch actually wrote an article about her being the first. After quickly learning she wasn't the first, TechCrunch writer Jason Kincaid quickly edited the article:

Update: Looks like Sony was wrong. As our commenters point out, Chamillionaire was the first to use Ustream for the debut of his music video, Good Morning (which you can watch here). As we saw at TechCrunch50 he’s definitely ahead of the curve with regard to web services, so it’s no surprise that he was first.

I just want to bring this attention to everyone because I felt like using Facebook and Ustream was a great move by us.  After discussing with Chamillionaire, I reached out to Facebook & Ustream to make this possible.  Chamillionaire premiered his video "Good Morning" on November 10th which was before Shakira's.  I don't really care if my name is mentioned when I do stuff, but to have someone else take credit for my idea when I was the first kinda makes me a bit bitter, ya feel me?

Why do record labels work against technology like they did to MC Hammer?

I am looking forward to the day that Record Labels do not exist. Yes, I really mean that.  Here is a perfect example why.  I was just searching YouTube to mock a friend that she can't touch this, so I figured the best way to show those emotions was posting MC Hammer's video "Can't touch this." I found the video and after clicking the link to it, some other music started playing.  Then I read the description:

MC Hammer - U Can't Touch This YouTube blocked the audio to the video so I just changed the audio to a song that was in the AudioSwap. Enjoy!

The video currently has 12,828,845 views. I repeat the video currently has 12 MILLION MOTHERFLIPPING VIEWS! Now, if the record labels were smart, they would call up YouTube and say something like this:

"Hey YouTube, this is the record label calling you again.  Yeah I know, you think we are greedy slimy cock suckers, but let me get to the point. There is a video that belongs to one of our artists, MC Hammer and the video is uploaded by some regular joe blow user.  INSTEAD of (KEY POINT HERE) claiming a copyright claim against this video, what I would like to do is have you change the video to our account so we get credit for the plays and start advertising on it.  I do realize that it took us 12 million plays later to realize all this because we are the record labels and do not work well with others and technology. Ok give me a call back, thanks.

It's just a matter of time before the record labels do not exist and artists can embrace all digital technologies to survive on their own.

I met MC Hammer with Chamillionaire and Larry Chiang last year and he is really a great dude so don't get it twisted like I'm blaming Hammer.

13 years ago today, we lost 2pac....Rest in Peace!

Can't believe it's been 13 years since we lost one of the greatest hip hop artists of all time, 2pac.  He was gunned down in Las Vegas on September 7th 1996 and later died in the Hospital, September 13th 1996.

Jay-Z's album Blueprint 3 is a classic, really dope

I just got done listening to Jay's new album and think it's a total classic. The funny thing is, I was never a Jay-Z fan, never was a NAS fan either.  I am a big fan of 2pac, Eminem and then I got into the southern music with Chamillionaire, Slim Thug, Paul Wall and Mike Jones.  I was never a fan of Notorious until a couple years ago because I was really into 2pac.  However, I think Biggie made a lot of good music and enjoy his albums now.  I think I would have a hard time putting together my actual top 10 albums but think this album is in the top 10. I encourage everyone to go get a copy, it will be playing in my iTunes for a while. If you haven't checked out his creative commercial I linked a few days ago, you should watch it, awesome concept.
