Classmates.com still gets 12 Million visitors a month, how is that possible?

Based on Compete.com (which I might add is not 100% accurate, but gives a ballpark) Classmates.com is getting 12 million unique visitors still a month.  That is unheard of! That is like saying ICQ is giving AIM and other instant messaging programs a run for their numbers. (Majority of the readers probably won’t even get that, ICQ was one of the first adopted instant messaging programs but is pretty much non existent nowadays).

If I remember right, their prices use to be a lot more expensive. But I’m scratching my head over this because Facebook offers this plus a lot more and it’s FREE.  How in the world is Classmates.com profitable still when Facebook has taken over the digiverse? Would you pay this much for Facebook?  2 years for $59? Facebook will never charge for profile accounts. Facebook did an outstanding job for using freemium as their service.
